“To develop a complete mind: study the science of art; study the art of science.  Learn how to see.  Realize that everything connects to everything else.”  LEONARDO DA VINCI

Mercury (ruler of Gemini) is the planet of connection, with Gemini ruling both the lower and higher mind.  Sagittarius (Gemini’s polar opposite) is often seen ‘at play’ in Gemini, as the signs work as balancing pairs.  Together these signs rule such things as: short (Gemini) and long-distance (Sagittarius) travel, perception and meaning, the present/here and now and the future/far away.

I embarked upon a series of shamanic journeys a few years ago, exploring the signs of the zodiac.  This series is still in process, but I thought to share a little of a Lower World (a safe place) journey to explore the sign of Gemini (below):

Gemini’s journey included Carrion Crow, Eagle and a shape-shifting Native American ‘face’ in the sky (this last came with a voice telling me to ‘pay heed to my Higher Self’).  I received some heart healing for myself during this journey (the air element being associated with the heart chakra and the sign of Gemini falling during the air element time of year in the Medicine Wheel).  Gemini is associated with Lower/Higher Self, with Crow’s meaning including: learning new things, seeing beyond our cultural limitations, teaching us to be mindful.  Crow energy also unites light and dark and is about adaptability to the environment.  Eagle’s symbolism includes the ability to see the ‘bigger picture’/the overall pattern and a connection with higher truths (more connected to Sagittarius, perhaps).

We have Mars turning retrograde in Aquarius/Capricorn from 26th June to 27th August, 2018 (9Aquarius13 back to 28Capricorn36).  Mars’ rulership includes: energy, action, anger and assertion, libido, passion and fever.  His cycle takes about 2 years, but his retrogrades are somewhat erratic (look at the house position of transiting Mars and the sun to find out which areas of your life he’s affecting).  The last time he was retrograde in Aquarius was in 1971!

A natal Mars in Aquarius might be passionate about science and technology, groups and networking, making the world a better place to live in.  We need an outlet for our Martian desires and passions (look at the sign, house and aspects of your own natal position to get a sense of what this is for you) to avoid the ‘blow-ups’, fevers, accidents and violence associated with the negative side of this planet, which are prone to be ‘detonated’ during his retrograde periods (especially around the time of the opposition to the sun – watch out for the time around 27th July, 2018).  The approach to the retrograde period can also feel full of potential (according to Erin Sullivan), which makes the lack of impetus to follow feel like being thwarted and/or difficult to make sense of.

Thank you for your continued interest, and do get in touch if you would like some help in exploring the meanings in your own chart, whether Mars-related or other.

Love and blessings from Helen x
